Chicago in May

This past weekend was my sister's birthday. We had this crazy idea a couple of months ago that we should go somewhere for her birthday since I have a lot of flyer miles saved up. She lives in Florida and I live in California so Chicago seems like a reasonable mid-point. Plus, the Windy City has a lot of cool buildings which is the perfect location since my sister is studying architecture in college. We arrived Thursday afternoon and left late Sunday afternoon. Within that 4 days, we fell in love with this beautiful city.

Right when we arrived at Midway, we knew we'd love this city. The walkway were covered with large murals. There were paintings in every hallways. Like tourists that we were, we stopped every 10 seconds to take pictures of new art pieces.

We spent hours at the infamous Navy Pier. There was a long line at Garrett's Popcorn so we got a bag of the Chicago's mix. It is a combination of cheddar and caramel. It was yummmm!!!! Totally worth buying.

Our hotel was only several blocks away from Millennium Park where Cloud Gate and Jay Pritzker Pavilion are located. In the morning, we jogged through Grant Park past Buckingham Fountain. We tried Chicago Style Hot Dogs & tamales with chili at Max's Take Out. What amazed us the most though, as the tens of thousands of tulips all around the city. THOUSANDS of colorful tulips neatly planted EVERYWHERE!!!!

Another thing thing about Chicago that we love is how much live music there are. On Thursday night, we went to see Million Dollar Quartet. It is the story of how the owner of Sony discovered Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash and two other famous singers. After that we stopped by Howl at the Moon for some dueling piano. On Friday night we went to a live stand-up comedy show at the Laughing Factory after roaming around the Magnificent Miles and eating at the Purple Pig. On Saturday night, we saw "All You Need is Love," a concert dedicated to the Beatles performed and interpreted by the Chicago Gay Men Chorus.

Look at we saw one night on our way back to the hotel.
How appropriate as the sign is coming from the Blue Cross Blue Shield building. "WE LOVE NURSES"

Here are more of us being silly selves:

The Adventures of Jixer and I... to the library.

Took Jixer out after work since he's been home all day.  We went to the library to return the books that I borrowed for Linda's photos. The library has a beautiful rose garden that is in full bloom so I couldn't help but take some pics.
